Laser Engraving Services

Laser engraving isn’t just marking — it’s precision-controlled material removal engineered for permanence and clarity. Proper setup, calibration, and surface preparation are what separate a clean, professional engraving from one that’s uneven, distorted, or inconsistent. Here’s how we ensure every project meets our standards.

Start Your Project

Laser Engraving with D&D Custom Works

Step 1: Consultation & Quote

We begin by discussing your design goals, artwork, placement, and desired finish. Whether it’s a logo, custom graphic, serial marking, or personal text, we review every detail before work begins.

  • Artwork, logo, or text review
  • Placement and sizing confirmation
  • Surface material evaluation
  • Project timeline confirmation
  • Detailed quote outlining scope and turnaround

Step 2: Disassembly & Inspection

When applicable, components are disassembled to ensure safe, precise engraving and protection of functional areas.

  • Separation of individual components
  • Inspection for existing coatings or finishes
  • Identification of critical surfaces to protect
  • Verification of material type (steel, aluminum, coated surfaces, etc.)

Proper evaluation ensures clean results without compromising function.

Step 3: Surface Preparation

Surface condition directly affects engraving clarity and consistency.

  • Degreasing and contaminant removal
  • Removal of oils or residues
  • Surface stabilization (if coated or previously finished)
  • Securing component for precise alignment

This step ensures sharp detail and consistent depth.

Step 4: Digital File Setup & Calibration

Precision starts before the laser ever fires.

  • Vector file preparation or optimization
  • Scaling and layout confirmation
  • Laser calibration for material type
  • Test passes when required

Proper calibration prevents overburn, distortion, or uneven engraving.

Step 5: Precision Laser Engraving

Using controlled laser settings, we engrave with accuracy and consistency.

  • Depth-controlled engraving
  • Clean line work and sharp detail
  • Even material removal
  • Permanent, wear-resistant marking

Every pass is monitored for clarity and precision.

Step 6: Post-Engraving Finishing

Once engraving is complete, parts are cleaned and refined.

  • Debris removal
  • Surface wipe-down
  • Optional paint fill (if requested)
  • Light protective treatment when applicable

Step 7: Reassembly & Final Inspection

Components are carefully reassembled (if applicable) and thoroughly inspected.

  • Alignment and symmetry check
  • Depth and clarity inspection
  • Functional verification
  • Final presentation cleaning

We ensure the engraving not only looks exceptional — but remains precise and permanent.

Step 8: Customer Pickup / Delivery

Your project is returned ready for use, with care recommendations provided as needed.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at d_dcustomworks@outlook.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Laser engraving is a precision-controlled marking process that permanently alters the surface of metals, polymers, coated components, and select composite materials. Unlike surface-applied methods, laser engraving removes material at a controlled depth to create crisp, permanent detail that will not peel, chip, or wear away under normal use.

The technology behind professional laser systems allows for exact calibration of depth, contrast, and clarity — ensuring sharp linework, consistent results, and material-safe application. Properly executed laser engraving maintains structural integrity while delivering durable markings engineered to withstand abrasion, handling, environmental exposure, and long-term use.

Each project is carefully calibrated to the specific material being engraved, allowing us to produce clean, precise results in both controlled environments and real-world applications. When done correctly, laser engraving delivers permanent detail with performance and reliability that surface-applied alternatives simply cannot match.

Our turnaround time can depend on many factors. Special order parts, colors, stencils, and seasonal runs will affect our turnaround time. Most jobs, with the exception of custom builds and intricate finishes will be completed within the turnaround time on the top of the home page of receiving the item. With builds and finishes, it can take anywhere from two to eight weeks depending on what we have to do. We will always keep you informed of any delays we encounter.

Yes, we are professionally trained armorers and gunsmiths that can tackle disassembly and reassembly for you.  We will only reassemble firearms that we have disassembled, we do not offer assembly as a standalone service.  We must perform disassembly AND reassembly if you want to use our shop for this service.

We offer precision laser engraving on a wide range of components and materials. Our equipment is calibrated to safely and accurately engrave both coated and bare surfaces without compromising function.

    Commonly engraved parts include:

    • Slides
    • Lower & Upper Receivers
    • Magazines
    • Optic plates
    • Baseplates
    • Dust covers
    • Trigger guards
    • Handguards
    • Grip modules (polymer & metal)
    • Small parts & accessories

We can engrave custom logos, serial markings, text, graphics, patterns, and detailed artwork — all permanently marked with sharp, consistent results.

If you’re unsure whether your part can be engraved, contact us with details and we’ll evaluate it for you.
