Certified Cerakote® Applicator

Cerakote® isn’t just paint — it’s a precision-applied ceramic coating system. Proper preparation and application are what separate a lasting finish from a failing one. Here’s how we ensure every project meets our standards.

Start Your Project

Step by Step Process with D&D Custom Works

Step 1: Consultation & Quote

We start by discussing your project goals, color selection, finish type, and any design elements. You’ll receive a detailed quote outlining scope, turnaround time, and expectations.

  • Color, pattern, and finish selection(s)
  • Surface type evaluation
  • Project timeline confirmation

Step 2: Full Disassembly & Inspection

Each item is fully disassembled to ensure proper coating coverage and protection of functional components.

  • Complete breakdown to individual parts
  • Inspection for wear or damage
  • Identification of surfaces to be masked or protected

Step 3: Surface Preparation

Preparation is the most critical part of the Cerakote® process. Proper adhesion depends on it.

  • Degreasing and contaminant removal
  • Media blasting to manufacturer specifications
  • Surface profiling for optimal coating bond

This step ensures the coating adheres properly and performs long-term.

Step 4: Masking & Setup

Precision masking is applied to protect critical tolerances and functional surfaces.

  • Threaded areas
  • Important surfaces to be kept as-is
  • Serial numbers (when required)
  • Internal components

We protect what shouldn’t be coated.

Step 5: Professional Application

Cerakote® is applied using HVLP spray systems in a controlled environment to ensure even coverage and proper film thickness.

Manufacturer-approved techniques
Correct mil thickness application
Even, consistent coverage

Step 6: Curing Process

Parts are oven-cured or air-cured (depending on coating type) according to Cerakote® specifications.

  • Controlled temperature curing
  • Proper cure time for durability
  • Maximum hardness and chemical resistance

Step 7: Reassembly & Final Inspection

Once cured, components are carefully reassembled and inspected.

  • Finish quality check
  • Tolerance and function check
  • Final cleaning and presentation

We ensure the finished product not only looks exceptional — but functions exactly as intended.

Step 8: Customer Pickup / Delivery

Your project is returned ready for use, with care instructions and maintenance recommendations provided.

Our turnaround time can depend on many factors. Special order parts, colors, stencils, and seasonal runs will affect our turnaround time. Most jobs, with the exception of custom builds and intricate finishes will be completed within the turnaround time on the top of the home page of receiving the item. With builds and finishes, it can take anywhere from two to eight weeks depending on what we have to do. We will always keep you informed of any delays we encounter.

Yes, we are professionally trained armorers and gunsmiths that can tackle disassembly and reassembly for you.  We will only reassemble firearms that we have disassembled, we do not offer assembly as a standalone service.  We must perform disassembly AND reassembly if you want to use our shop for this service.

With Cerakote, virtually any part of a gun that is not made of rubber can be coated. However, our policy is to not coat any critical contact points (sears, safeties, triggers, disconnectors, etc.), aftermarket match triggers, springs, inside of barrels or chambers. Some springs that are attached permanantly to a gun must sometimes be coated. In these instances these spring will be coated, but we will not coat anything that will affect the function of your firearm.

As soon as you receive them back from us. All of our finishes are fully cured when they are shipped back to you.

Yes! We offer 10% for Military and First Responders. Please reach out and inquire or let us know when discussing your project with us. Credentials must be valid and presented in order to receive the discount.
